Was this review helpful? Productive and fun workplace. Learned a vast array of Knowledge for Payroll processing from start to finish for New Zealand. Provided opportunity to advance knowledge in Australian Payroll fundamentals.
Workplace culture is friendly. Depending upon the department your working within you will find that Sales fcfcxxx. Jaycar is still living in the 80’s. Store level staff are ok to work with but nothing ever changes as far as culture or procedures that are meant to make the workplace smarter. Training is left up to store managers who have no time to train you properly because of their ongoing expectations from Managers.
If you want to earn minimum wage with maximum expectation then this is the place for you. Good while it lasted. I was hired by Jaycar as extra help over the busy Christmas period and was only ever given a handful of shifts over the course of several months with no real communication as to when and where I would work next. The work itself was rather light and my coworkers were easy to work with but management’s lack of shifts meant that I had little money to show for my efforts and I was not given a reference when I was laid off.
Place where one in respected. Polite people were around. No harsh word heard and nobody ever showed any disrespect. The environment was quite friendly and i learnt a lot from my colleagues. The regional manager used to come and he participated in all chores ats he was one of empolyee like us. People used to come were from the electronics domain so they were also the source of learning for us.
Manager and especially my assistant manager was a nicest person.

Great colleagues poor management. Enjoyed every day working with the team, until management would get involved. Many managers are incapable of delegating tasks properly and the whole day devolves into a a mess. Productive and fun, constantly changing environment.
Latest Jaycar Catalogue | Jaycar Electronics
New gadgets constantly moving though. They forget we are a hobby electronics store and jajcar always hire the best staff. Training is alright, with improvements coming. Decent discounts across most products in store, however, branded items are not. Typical retail store, with daily checks to be done, KPI’s to be met. The hardest part of the job would be dealing with customers who have no cataloghe what they need and expect us to be mind readers.
Customers thinking we are technicians and then losing it when we tell them we cannot help. Some cool gadgets to use, decent staff discount on most items, relaxed, work can be interesting, seeing projects develop. Great place to work. Not a great culture of work.
Highly overworked catlaogue not properly compensated, expected to perform long hours and often without correct breaks. Learnt many technical things while working there, however nothing a quick internet search wouldn’t cahalogue told me. Management are a “Boys Club” often sexist. Co-workers were a variety of highly skilled and complete morons, neither particularly socially adept.
A few workers were great but often leave quickly. Hardest part of the job was dealing with overly technical questions as though we were expected have a degree in electronics and be working as electrical technicians or engineers.

Most enjoyable part was having a sense of accomplishment when you were able to help a client with their project and they brought photos or videos of what they had constructed. Challenging and Advancement Opportunities. Support from Area Manager and head office, career advancement good pay.
A great place to work if you don’t mind being berated. I’ve never met a single staff member at that company that didn’t make me smile. They’re mostly all pretty competent at electronics there, mostly all good salespersons.
The store managers are, for every one I’ve jaycqr, amazing and giving people. Happy to drop what they’re doing with a smile and put your concerns first. The management above store level is, almost without fail, abhorrent.
Pretty much all catqlogue them are sycophantic sadists. Customers always come first. I started at Jaycar Electronics with caatalogue knowledge of the products I was selling but came into the store with knowledge of customer service.
I learnt a range of products ranging from gizmos and gadgets to solar panels, electrical components, led lighting and security. On a typical day at work we will work as a team to naycar and mark off stock and get it out onto the shop floor, all in the mean time making sure our customers are number one. We will greet a customer on entry of the store and ask if they need any guidance and help from there onwards.
Some of the harder aspects of this job is some questions about products that I know only little about although try and do quick research on the computer to see if I can find the correct answer. The most enjoyable part about my job is the one on one I get with the customer and making them feel good about the product they are buying and just in general.
Fun and reasonably relaxed. Would arrive cataloguw 8: Turn shop on and put out advert signs on road. Management was very well run, always had something to keep you busy. End of day would close tills and do end of day banking. Hardest part of the job was getting use to so many different products. Most enjoyable was working with a great team. Always something new uaycar into the shop to learn about.
So I’d always get to work 10 to 15 mins early so I could get a iced coffee and get to work on time if not before, I have a quick chat to the manager about the plan for the day.
So then it would be time to unload any new stock and check it all off the list, then proceed to move the stock onto the shop floor and into back stock room if didn’t fit cagalogue shop, all at the same time as cztalogue customers. General housekeeping of the shop, on occasions I’d get to deliver catalogues to other business’s and do the meet and greet. Most of the time I’d also stay back after my shift was finished to help out if I could and to talk about products and to learn all I could.
I’d have to say the most difficult part of this job was the ability to meet sales targets as some times there were simply no customers to make the sales. The best part of working in an electronics shop is I love electronics. Despite the name, we dont sell car parts we sell electronics. If you are interested in learning about electronics or have a project you wish to complete, Jaycar can help to acheive that as we sell loads of specific parts.
I have learned quite a fair bit working in this industry, I had no prior knowledge of soldering, or resistors, or capacitors, or solar panels etc. The hardest part of the job would be remembering all the technicalities, there are still things i need to learn and every time i come to work, i learn something new. The most enjoyable part of the day is when the shop is closing and we have reached target for that day it feels like we have achieved goal.
A thoroughly enjoyable place to work. Joined Jaycar after high school without much customer service experience but my team were very helpful and have since managed to get me up to speed.
There’s always something to do in a Jaycar store, whilst the job is generally relaxing, the tasks are non stop. The staff are truly excellent, we even meet up outside of work.
On the other hand, there’s always tough customers who will throw you off with a weird question and the pay isn’t great for all the assumed knowledge, technical advice and occasional observations of customers various projects.
Most of the staff have an engineering degree and it comes in handy on a daily basis. Excellent work environment, great staff, interesting things to learn all the time.
Interesting environment, poor support. This has been a highly interesting environment, with many new aspects to learn about. Skill-wise I have learned how to rapidly learn new information and retain it, retain long strings of numbers and information, process reports, data entry, stock management, scheduling, etc.
I have learned to be polite and professional in moments of stress and pressure, and how to best manage a situation to achieve the best outcome for all involved. For the most part my coworkers have been fantastic people, and my current team are some of the best people I’ve had the opportunity to work with. Despite this, the management and support within the company has left a lot to be desired.
With very little proper interaction between the shop floor and upper management, many things do not get communicated properly. The hardest part of the job was perhaps the prejudice I have dealt with being female in this particular field, but I’ve had immense satisfaction in proving wrong many people who have doubted my abilities and intelligence.
Plenty of new things to learn about and chances to experiment with ideas.
