The New Recruit : Andy McNab :

Louise Jewell rated it it was amazing Oct 10, sndy You will be ready. But you survive; you know you’ll make a good soldier. I would recommend this book to year olds. McNab’s fiction draws extensively on his experiences and knowledge of Special Forces soldiering. Published January 3rd by Doubleday Childrens first published December 1st I really enjoyed as I am really into war stories and it was a real page turner.

Besides his writing work, he lectures to security and intelligence agencies in both the USA and UK, works in the film industry advising Hollywood on everything from covert procedure to training civilian actors to act like soldiers.


To date, Immediate Action has now sold over 1. He served in B Squadron 22 SAS for ten years and worked on both covert and overt special operations worldwide, including anti-terrorist and anti-drug operations in the Middle and Far East, South and Central America and Northern Ireland.

Nothing spectacular here, but solid and fairly entertaining.

McNab also worked as an instructor on the SAS selection and training team and recriit foreign special forces in counter terrorism, hostage rescue and survival training. It took you from him going through basic training, infantry training and being stationed in Afghanistan. The book also seemed to feel short and maybe could have just been fleshed out more. A great read, and a good insight on what it takes to become a soldier, then go on to serve in Afghanistan. When I went to the library I went straight to the “Teen Reads” shelf and saw heaps of books I had read. The Author showed a great deal of knowledge and know-how of the British Army.

With a stupid revenge plot that reruit no sense, where a character acted like a total idiot, and got sndy pathetic resolution.

Books can teach you very important life lessons, and I have learnt a major one from this novel. An intense journey filled with heart pumping action and a few teary moments. A very easy read, somewhat predictable, but thoroughly enjoyable. Published inRemote Control was hailed as the most authentic thriller ever written and has sold over half a million copies in the UK. During the Gulf War he commanded Bravo Two Zero, a patrol that, in the words of his commanding officer, ‘will remain in regimental history for ever’.
